Stockport’s Alma Lodge Hotel sold

The 52-bedroom hotel and events venue on Buxton Road has been sold to two private investor brothers for the asking price of £2.75m.

The Alma Lodge Hotel in Stockport was first constructed in the 1860s. It comprises an original main building with en-suite guest bedrooms and an Italian restaurant, and a modern extension housing and an events venue with five conference rooms and a larger function room with capacity for 250 people.

The property has been owned by members of the Tavini family and other company directors for the past 20 years.

The hotel is eight miles from Manchester city centre on the border with Cheshire and has access to transport links including Stockport railway station and Manchester Airport. It also benefits from proximity to attractions such as the Manchester United football ground and attracts business and leisure travellers as a result.

The hotel was sold by agency Christie & Co. The current owners plan to retire, after having owned and operated the hotel for the past two decades.

The anonymous purchasers are looking to “drive the business forward and quickly get it back to its pre-Covid performance”, according to the sales agent.

Ryan Lynn, director of Christie & Co’s corporate hotels team, said: “We have been working on the deal for a while now and despite such an uncertain time, the sale has gone through after a lot of hard work from all involved, suggesting the resilience of the sector.”

Does it benefit from its proximity to ‘the Manchester United football ground’ in that it is located in Greater Manchester?

Pleased it’s remaining as a hotel, Stockport is so lacking in a top class venue !! Good luck .

By Mike Heaney.

Should get at least 50 houses on there. More need for them than hotels.

I do hope they keep on the original staff, they are such a nice team. Also their restaurant serves a very nice sunday lunch, with Roberto overseeing everything to make you comfortable. We do not need any more houses in the area, we need more restaurants and shops. Anyway good retirement to the Tavini family.
