Stockport College to build £14.8m ‘social hub’

Stockport College is planning the next phase of its redevelopment with a new £14.8m building on Wellington Road and the refurbishment of George Wood Tower.

The new four-storey 60,000 sq ft 'hub' building will contain all the principal social and central activities including catering, performing spaces, cyber cafe, social space, training kitchens and learning resource centre.

The 25,000 sq ft George Wood Tower will connect to the new building and will contain the central administration and student support functions. The tower will be extended in height by an additional storey of external cladding making it six storeys high to conceal rooftop plant.

A contractor is expected to be appointed before the summer.

Gardiner and Theobald Management Services LLP is advising the college.
