Stockport civic centre tops out

Contractor Carillion has reached the highest point of the new structure that will become the new base for 400 council officers in 2011.

The BREEAM 'excellent' 45,000 sq ft building is scheduled for completion at the end of 2010. The £12m building, designed Archial Architects, will have a reduced carbon footprint of 258,400 kg CO2 a year.

The new civic building will replace Ponsonby House and offer a range of services currently provided at Hygarth House and Stopford House.

Stockport civic centre topping outThe development is being managed by NPS (Stockport) Ltd on behalf of Stockport Council. A ceremony was held last week to mark the traditional topping out milestone.
