Start on site nears for Ducie Street flats

Huddersfield-based Big Red Construction is lined up to build Urbano Property’s 41-home Manchester development, according to documents lodged with the city council.

Designed by Tim Groom Architects, the Ducie Street scheme was approved in 2019.

The project will see the creation of a seven-to-eight-storey building comprising 13 one-bedroom flats and 28 with two bedrooms.

Construction of the Ducie Street project is due to take 68 weeks.

The site is used as a surface level car park and is in an area of high development activity, falling within the Piccadilly Strategic Regeneration Framework.

Next to Urbano’s site, McCauls Group is progressing plans for a nine-storey scheme featuring 89 homes, while Ciel Capital has permission to convert an apartment block on Laystall Street into a 172-suite aparthotel.

Plans for the aparthotel were approved in 2018 but the brand that was lined up to operate the facility, Stow-Away, has since been dissolved, according to Companies House.

Also nearby are Property Alliance Group’s completed Oxygen scheme, as well as M1 Piccadilly’s 15-storey gold tower on Store Street.

Nice to see plenty of large useable balconies on this scheme for a change. That will really add to its appeal.

Other developers should take note of the large balconies and brickwork detailing.
