Start imminent for Barrow’s £4m public realm upgrade

Work will start on Monday on the Dalton Road phases of Barrow public realm improvement scheme, aimed at boosting trade and investment in the town centre and bringing environmental and landscape improvements.

The £4.13m scheme is being funded by the North West Development Agency via Barrow Regeneration, formerly Barrow Vision, to the tune of around £3.7m, with Cumbria County Council contributing £252,000 and Barrow Borough Council £160,000.

The work is divided into seven phases and will be completed by September 2010. The area to be improved covers Dalton Road, Portland Walk, Cavendish Street, Scott Street, Dalkeith Street and William Street.
