Stalled apartments scheme back on track

Manchester-based planning consultancy Hourigan Connolly, on behalf of Elan Homes, has secured planning permission for 126 apartments off Trafford Road in Salford, which will see the completion of the stalled Saltra development.

Shaun McCarthy, technical director at Elan Homes, said following the planning committee's decision: "We are delighted to be able to finally proceed with the development of this important gateway site in Salford. This follows collaboration with officers at Urban Vision to ensure a development that meets local needs and balances delivery with high quality design."

Hourigan Connolly led negotiations with the council and local stakeholders throughout the application. The development was formerly in the hands of David McLean Homes before its demise at the start of the financial crisis.

Katie Delaney, planner at Hourigan Connolly commented: "This is an important project that will bring much needed new homes to Salford. The application site has lain vacant for a number of years and we are delighted to have negotiated the removal of some onerous planning contributions to finally unlock the development of the site. We are seeing house builders return to the market with renewed optimism which is reflected in a growing order book of development proposals programmed to start on site early in 2014."
