Spencer starts Skelmersdale scheme with logistics deal

Spencer Holdings' redevelopment of the 150,000 sq ft Pikelaw Place industrial park in Skelmersdale has received an early boost with a letting of 56,800 sq ft to SPD Logistics for its UK headquarters.

The scheme on Pimbo Industrial Estate off Junction 5 of the M58 is being refurbished to provide a warehousing distribution base.

The remainder of the site is due for completion in early 2009 to provide a 73,000 sq ft high eaves warehouse with refurbished offices, large yard and dock level access.

Jim Spencer, founder and chairman of Spencer Holdings, said: "The development, when completed, will provide an excellent operational base for large warehouse and dirstribution operators."

Howard George, senior director of CBRE, letting agent at the estate said it is attracting good interest. George added: "This deal represents a significant transaction in the current market and we are talking to a couple of large multinational companies looking at the site whose interest we hope to advance further in the new year."
