Sovini plans affordable apartments in Birkenhead
The Sovini Group, through its building contractor arm Carroll Group and housing association One Vision Housing, has submitted plans for 46 apartments off Conway Street.
Plans include the demolition of the existing 1,600 sq ft single-storey office building, which was formerly occupied by landowner Birkenhead Van Hire until the company relocated to new premises on Hind Street to make way for the development.
A stepped three-to-four-storey apartment block would then be built by Carroll on the brownfield site, with 10 car parking spaces and associated landscaping.
The scheme was designed by Cody & Lofthouse Architects. In the design and access statement, the firm considers “the design, which seeks to create a bespoke addition while also incorporating elements of the adjacent properties, [to be] complementary to the character of the existing built environment.”
A spokesperson from One Vision Housing said: “Our proposed plans for Conway Street in Birkenhead support One Vision Housing’s regeneration agenda and will help provide much needed affordable housing on the Wirral. We look forward to working closely with the community and Wirral Council during the course of this project, and creating future opportunities in the area.”
