Housebuilder Bloor Homes has opened a public consultation on proposals to build 650 homes across 97 acres close to Crewe Hall Enterprise Park, east of the town centre.
Bloor Homes’ South Cheshire Growth Village proposal includes a market square featuring local retail and community uses, and a network of pedestrian and cycle routes connecting the clutches of houses within the development.
Under the plans, the development would straddle the train line between Crewe to the west and Alsager to the east. A total of 30% of the homes would be designated as affordable.
More than 50% of the site would be given over to green open spaces, including a central village green, play areas, walking routes, community allotments, orchards and wildlife areas, according to Bloor.
In addition, road redesign and traffic management measures would be implemented to reduce through traffic, encourage use of the A500 and avoid rat-running through surrounding villages such as Weston.
The site is allocated for development in Cheshire East Council’s local plan and is close to Basford East, where developers Onward Homes and Lane End Group have permission to build 449 homes following approval from Cheshire East Council in October.
Kate McClean, planning director at Bloor Homes, said: “The draft proposals for South Cheshire Growth Village will deliver a sustainable development of homes and a village centre with a range of uses for the community, as well as green open space for local people to use and enjoy.
“In addition, the proposals capitalise on the site’s highly sustainable location in close proximity to Crewe and to the M6 motorway, as well as providing new pedestrian and cycle links to improve connectivity and reduce car dependency.”
Bloor aims to lodge a planning application for the development early next year.
