Skechers in at Liverpool ONE

Fashion retailer Skechers USA has signed to open a 3,578 sq ft store on South John Street in Liverpool ONE later this year.

The California-based brand will trade from a unit next to Hollister, Zara and the forthcoming Victoria’s Secret, which opens this summer. Skechers will stock its full product range for men, women and children.

Grosvenor Fund Management said footfall last year exceeded 28 million, a 3% increase on 2014. Sales increased by 8.5% compared to the previous year. Twenty new brands signed at Liverpool ONE in 2015.

Miles Dunnett, director of portfolio management at Grosvenor Fund Management, said: “The signing of Skechers so soon after the start of the year is a great reflection of the awareness of Liverpool ONE’s success amongst leading fashion and lifestyle brands. Skechers’ desire to create a flagship store on South John Street is driven by both the other recent additions to our line-up as well as our sustained growth in 2015. The news is also evidence of our proactive management of Liverpool ONE to deliver the most compelling offer in the region.

“To have also achieved our highest levels of footfall and strongest sales since we opened is fantastic and we are delighted that momentum is being maintained into 2016.”

Liverpool ONE is moving further into the food and beverage market. New World Trading Company is currently preparing to launch the Club House, its unique bar and restaurant in a specially created pavilion building on Chavasse Park. Roxy Ball Room and Busaba are also making their debuts in the city in Liverpool ONE. Roxy Ball Room is due to open its ping pong and pool concept in early February on College Lane, followed by Busaba and Turtle Bay on Hanover Street.

Cushman & Wakefield and Metis Real Estate Advisors acted for Liverpool ONE. CBRE represented Skechers.

Great place nowadays, Liverpool city centre. From the Bohemian birds shopping on Bold Street to the trendy young things tottering around Liverpool One, its a great place for any dappered-up man-about-town.

Oh rather! (with apologies to Leslie Philips)

Agree. It’s a great retail/leisure experience now, probably better than Manchester city centre in terms of the street scene, especially around Liverpool One. Cheaper parking too!

I am glad Liverpool is coming back.We need the whole of the North West to prosper. This region has been in the doldrums too long.I wish Mancs had the same pride in their city as Scousers do.Civic pride is sadly missing in Manchester from the locals.Perhaps Scousers could teach Mancs on how to love your city.

By Elephant

Plenty of scousers I know don’t like Liverpool One, many prefer the Trafford Centre and do all of their shopping there.

The average spend of the Liverpool shopper is still a fair bit lower than Leeds and Manchester though and luxury brands just can’t make a success of it in the city. Look at the high end offering in Manchester and look at what Leeds is doing.

By Prestatyn

Prestatyn – by what percentage is it lower? Is this consistent across all quarters? Are you talking fashion retail or total retail?

Or is this just your own uninformed opinion?

If anything, I’d suggest Liverpool is much more fashion-conscious than Manchester, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the average spend is higher there than Manchester. Manchester may have a bigger selection of “high end” stores, but its population is twice the size… there are equally a greater number of “low end” stores.

Liverpool One is very smart and as a whole the shopping experience in Liverpool is significantly more pleasant than in Manchester: compare Church Street with the gauntlet of Market Street.

I am from Manchester and Liverpool as a city is miles better , Manchester is dirty and dull.

By Karen

Well it’s either robbed or counterfeit in Manchester …so what’s new. lol
I shop in Liverpool you know you get quality .

If you take the best of what each has to offer you’ll hit the jackpot…

There’s nothing you can get in Liverpool that you can’t get elsewhere, most of it is even available in Chester, there’s no Harvey Nics, no Selfridges, no House of Fraser, nothing like Manchester’s Northern Quarter or King Street. Nothing like Leed’s arcades. The St John’s Centre is awful. There is half the amount of retail as there is in Manchester, but more sportswear.

By Yarrum

There is a Harvey Nichols in Liverpool.

By Elephant

Liverpool: an international brand.

Manchester: fights and claws for every bit of its ill-deserved reputation.

No further comments needed. Let’s move on.

By Ojoo Knowtiss

Is that where you get your trackies?

By Man on bicycle

Yarrum – the city centre has a John Lewis, which in Manchester you’d have to travel to the Trafford Centre for. Bold Street for cafes and the surrounding streets for the nightlife element do the Northern Quarter “thing”, but much much better.

Given its half the size, you’d probably expect about half the retail though, wouldn’t you? Duh.

Pointless debate.

Liverpool was a long way behind in retail terms not so long ago and it’s come a long way since. It’s a shame that Liverpool One is so dominant though as it looks as if it could date quite badly and could look like Stockport in 15 years time.

By Welshie

I’ve heard a few locals comment adversely on its appearance… which has always surprised me because I’ve always been impressed by the design of the thing: good range and quality of materials, differing architecture, easily navigable. But wouldn’t be the first of its kind to date.

Not sure it will ever be as bad as Stockport though!!

L1, has received a number of awards for it’s design and intergration of a large retail/leisure area which blends in seamlessly with the rest of the City..strange comments here about it’s appearance.
