Sigma and Countryside secure consent in Prescot

Countryside and Sigma Capital have secured planning approval to build 140 private rented homes as part of the wider regeneration of the former Prysmian Cables site in Prescot.

Knowsley’s planning committee approved the housebuilders’ application at a meeting on 17 April, making Countryside and Sigma the fourth development to come forward at the 63-acre site.

The proposals cover Plot A, a 7.3 acre section of the Cables site, and one of five separate parcels of land which will be developed for housing.

Sigma and Countryside are proposing five detached homes, 58 semi-detaches houses, and 53 three and four-bed mews homes, alongside 24 one-and-two bed apartments.

The homes will be available for private rent under Sigma’s Simple Life brand, making them the first private-rented properties on the Prysmian Cables site.

Countryside and Sigma plan to start work in the coming months and will be the fourth company to start on site. Barratt secured reserved matters permission for 150 homes in July 2017, covering Parcel B, the largest portion of the site.

Meanwhile, Anwyl Homes secured planning for 119 homes in November, and earlier this year, Taylor Wimpey’s proposals for 173 homes were also signed off by Knowsley Council planners.

Mark Hadfield, regional operations director at Countryside said: “We are looking forward to starting work on transforming this brownfield site into a thriving community, as we have done successfully with our other seven developments within the borough.

“This opportunity will see the further extension of our close working relationships with Knowsley Council and Sigma Capital Group to bring the community quality new homes that are accessible to all.”

Outline plans for the wider scheme include 750 homes and 10,000 sq ft of commercial and industrial space. Infrastructure works on the site have already completed, alongside a Home Bargains warehouse.
