Shed to replace former BASF base

Plans to build a 135,000 sq ft warehouse at the Stanley Green site have been lodged with Stockport Council.

The 6.9-acre Earl Road site was acquired by PIN Property in January 2020 for around £6m, having been vacated when chemicals company BASF relocated to Muse’s Stockport Exchange.

Acting for Jersey-based Cantt Pak, PIN has now filed proposals to demolish the office building and replace it with an industrial property of 135,000 sq ft. The site that in question is bound on two sides by a railway and the A555 Manchester Airport Relief Road.

PIN proposes a single unit, including around 10,000 sq ft of office space on two floors, with curtain walling at the entrance to provide a clear entry point.

The professional team includes SK Transport Planning, Thorn Lighting, Seed and Turley Sustainability, which produced the scheme’s energy statement.

The proposal includes 280 car parking spaces and 20 covered cycle bays.

PIN is also working on behalf of Cantt Pak on a 38,000 sq ft industrial scheme at Venture Point, Speke, which was approved by Liverpool City Council in October 2020.

Another iconic building hits the dust. I understand that pilots landing at Manchester Airport used it as a land mark for landing. I hope they will not be too confused and be able to land safely at the correct Airport.!!!!

According to an article I read years ago in The Romper PH, pilots used to look for Timperley church, then following Ridgeway Rd to the airport.

Another great building to be demolished and replaced by a featureless warehouse. Life has come full circle as prior to this beautiful building there was a featureless warehouse on this site. With the future work place being increasingly home based will this be another white elephant or is it a ploy to get planning permission for airport car storage?
