Shankly hotel planned for council office

Signature Living Hotel is in advanced talks with Liverpool City Council to buy the authority's office building Millennium House on Victoria Street to create a £15m hotel and office development.

The developer plans to create a 250-room apart-hotel themed around the legendary Liverpool FC manager Bill Shankly along with 17,500 sq ft of office space, which will house Signature Living's head office, as well as providing space aimed at start-up companies.

The council's Cabinet will be asked to approve the plans on Friday 4 April.

The council recently completed the acquisition of the Cunard Building from Merseyside Pension Fund, part of a cost-saving plan that involves relocating hundreds of staff to the waterfront site and disposing of its interest in Millennium House, and the 10th floor of The Capital building on Old Hall Street, home to Liverpool Vision.

Subject to planning approval the aparthotel and office conversion would begin in early 2015 with the scheme due to complete by March 2016.

Capital of Cliche. God save Liverpool from itself

Is this really a cost saving exercise? LCC wasting a lot of money! £2.2m extension on Palmerston School – last year, now knocking it down to relocate it and build St Julie’s on the site (St Julie’s has had new annexes) why why why?

As a Liverpool fan Living in Cheshire I would be interested in staying in this hotel when I visit the City of Liverpool and I guess other Liverpool fans from other parts of the country/world would too.

Sound business idea if you ask me.
