Seven in running for GM Chamber building of year
The long-list has been announced for the Greater Manchester Building of the Year Award 2010 awarded by Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce.
The list of potential winners is as follows:
- Aquinas College redevelopment, Stockport, designed by Broadway Malyan
- Stockport Plaza restoration, Brock Carmichael Architects
- Stockport College town centre campus, Austin-Smith:Lord
- The Point at Lancashire County Cricket Club, Trafford, by BDP
- New Patient Treatment Centre at the Christie Hospital, Manchester, AFL Architects
- People's History Museum, Manchester, Austin-Smith:Lord
- 1 New York Street, Manchester, Denton Corker Marshall
Last year saw the landmark Ashton Market development take the top prize and previous winners have included John Rylands Library, the Beetham Tower and the Radisson Hotel.
Steve Burne, chairman of Greater Manchester Chamber's property and construction section, said: "This year's projects are a great tribute to the standard of work we are continuing to see across Greater Manchester, despite the recent difficult climate. As we look towards more positive times, this is the perfect opportunity to celebrate our architectural and construction achievements, which are crucial in the redevelopment of Greater Manchester and its growth as a major business centre."
A final shortlist will be announced next month with the winning project named at the section's annual dinner at the Hilton Manchester on 14 October and the award will be presented by Sir Howard Bernstein.
