Sellafield readies £250m construction contract

The firm that operates the Cumbria nuclear facility is preparing a framework to appoint a single contractor to carry out building and maintenance work at its 1,200-acre site.

The Integrated Asset Care framework is being formulated to replace Sellafield’s current Operation Site Works framework, which expires in 2022.

The Sellafield nuclear plant and associated operations is located near Seascale on the coast of West Cumbria.

OneAIM, a joint venture comprising contractors AmecFosterWheeler and Interserve, was appointed on the previous framework in 2017, but the five-year contract is now coming to an end.

Once the framework has been launched and a contractor appointed, the successful party will be responsible for carrying out civil and mechanical projects at the site, including construction, maintenance and repair of structures and facilities.

The services will predominantly be delivered at the main Sellafield site. However, the chosen contractor may also be required to deliver works at alternative off-site locations, according to tender documents.

Sellafield will commence early market engagement in the autumn, a process to include an industry event, and the company intends to appoint a contractor in 2022.
