Sellafield invites bids for £1.5bn design and build contract

Sellafield has published a tender for a contract worth up to £1.5bn to design and build a Highly Active Liquid Effluent Facility in west Cumbria.

The contract, worth between £250m and £1.5bn, is split into three phases. The first phase covers initial mobilisation and familiarisation while the second entails design and pre construction safety reports.

The third phase, which is subject to approval from the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and the Government, will see the contractor complete detailed designs and construction of the facility.

Sellafield anticipates the five-year contract will run from 1 April 2010, with completion set for 31 March 2018.

Deadline for submitting tenders is Wednesday 9 September 2009.
