Sefton appoints consultancy for Southport regeneration

Sefton Council has appointed Manchester-based independent retail and leisure property consultancy Cheetham & Mortimer to advise on the regeneration and redevelopment plans for Southport.

Warwick Smither, partner, Cheetham & Mortimer, said: "As inward investment filters back into town regeneration, we are seeing a shift in emphasis from developers back to local authorities in bringing forward development opportunities. Consequentially, independent, niche practices such as ourselves are being selected for our in-depth market intelligence and understanding of developers and retailers, to ensure a successful delivery of these proposals. We are very proud to be able to offer a full service, backed up by our contact network."

Cheetham & Mortimer will work directly with planners to advise on retail matters and proposals for Southport town centre.

It has worked with developers including St Modwen, Henry Boot, Peel Holdings and Property Alliance Group in the past and has been retained by Boots and M&S in the north of England.

As well as being appointed by Sefton Council, Cheetham & Mortimer has also been selected by Derbyshire Dales District Council to advise on retail proposals for Matlock town centre.
