Seddon awarded Barrow schools work
Construction company Seddon has secured contracts worth over £12m for four schools in Barrow from Cumbria County Council.
Work on Vickerstown Primary School, St Georges Primary School and St Bernard's High School has started on site and work on Barrow Island Primary School will start next year.
The contractor is currently looking for local sub-contractors and suppliers who can join them on the projects and hopes to create one or two direct employment opportunities at each of the four sites.
Jonathan Seddon, MD of Seddon, said: "We are very proud to have been awarded these contracts and are looking forward to working with local businesses to make them become a reality. We are hoping to create a number of direct opportunities with Seddon but the majority of our requirements are for local companies which we hope will help provide security for local employment."
Work at Vickerstown Primary School has already started and includes the construction of a new single storey primary school as well as all associated external works. Completion is expected in Oct 2011.
Part of St Georges Primary School will be demolished and a new extension built, the existing school refurbished and external landscaping created. Completion is expected in September 2011.
Work at St Bernard's High School includes the construction of a detached classroom block in addition to extensions and alterations to existing buildings. Completion is expected in August 2011.
