Search is on for West Lakes design visionary

Urban regeneration company West Lakes Renaissance has launched a search for visionary designers to work on major regeneration projects across Furness and West Cumbria.

The strategic design director will be tasked with managing the new Regeneration by Design initiative, which was devised by West Lakes, Arts Council England North West, and Barrow-based contemporary arts company Art Gene, to ensure that the area's regeneration projects are "visually stunning as well as practical".

Regeneration projects on which the designer will work include the £200m residential, leisure and retail development at Marina Village on Barrow's dockland; improvements to Whitehaven, Workington and Maryport town centres under the Whitehaven Regeneration and Britain's £2bn Energy Coast masterplans; a multi-million pound Housing Market Renewal programme, and the development of the recently-purchased Derwent Forest site.
