School relocation clears way for 450 homes

Cheshire East Council has approved three planning applications from the Foundation of Sir John Percyvale, confirming the relocation of King’s School in Macclesfield to a 52-acre site off Derby Fields near Prestbury, allowing 450 homes to be built on the vacated site.

At Fence Avenue, buildings occupied by a girl’s school will be partially demolished and redeveloped to make way for 300 homes, while the boy’s school on Westminster Road would be cleared for 150 houses.

At the same meeting, which took place yesterday, proposals from Cedar Invest for a £13m retail park at Barracks Mill, Macclesfield, had been on the agenda but were withdrawn at the last minute.

The council also deferred a decision on the construction of 400 homes by Barratt at the former Manchester Metropolitan University campus in Alsager.

Councillors refused plans from Cheshire Lakes Community Interest Company, which had been seeking sign-off for a £1.6m development of a watersports activity centre at a former quarry in Chelford. However, the scheme will be reconsidered by the board in the coming months.
