SBS completes Accrington station

Work on a new £1.6m low carbon railway station in Accrington has been completed.

Designed by Manchester-based SBS Architects, the new station was part funded by European Union's sustainable stations Interreg IVB programme.

Lancashire County Council owns the building and has leased the property to Northern Rail, which operates the booking office.

Solar panels, rainwater harvesting, locally sourced materials and use of reclaimed stone from the local area have been used for the construction of the project.

Lancashire County Council and the East Lancashire Community Rail Partnership will run a learning resource centre incorporated into the basement for education and exhibitions related to promoting green issues.
