Sandbach sixth form centre opens

A new extension for the Sixth Form at Sandbach School in Cheshire has opened on time and on budget after an 18-week build.

Building consultancy Turner & Townsend provided project management, cost management and CDM Co-ordinator services for the extension and remodeling of the sixth form block which was funded by Partnerships for Schools as part of the Free Schools programme. The main contractors was Conlon Construction; civil and structural engineer was Curtins Consulting; the architect was Tweed Nuttall Warburton.

The new development was completed in 18 weeks after a contractor appointment through the North West Construction Hub.

Euan Imrie, Bursar at the school, said: "We are absolutely delighted with the new sixth form extension. The project ran smoothly and was completed to schedule."

The handover of this project by Turner & Townsend follows the successful completion of the Maharishi Free School in Ormskirk and current commissions within the education sector at Lancaster & Morecambe College, Cheadle & Marple Sixth Form College, and the recent appointment at Hugh Baird College.

Martin Perryman, director of Turner & Townsend's Manchester office, said: "The speed at which this project has been delivered, from a blank sheet of paper to the finished project, is testament to the collaborative approach from all parties. The client is delighted and we will take many positive lessons into our future projects."
