Salix Homes has revealed plans for a major refurbishment and new-build programme at a site off Blackfriars Road, including a new 11-storey apartment block.
The housing association, working with Willmott Dixon, civil engineers Elluc, and architect Corstorphine + Wright, has submitted a planning application to Salford City Council outlining its proposals for the site, which sits between West King Street and St Stephen Street, just off Blackfriars Road and Trinity Way.
Two existing buildings, Westminster House and Canon Green Court, were built in the early 1960s. The latter, an eight storey building, contains 110 apartments, while the former is a three storey building of 33 apartments.
Salix is planning to fully refurbish these buildings including fit-out and new cladding, and will also build an eleven-storey apartment block fronting Blackfriars Road, opposite the existing Delta Point residential development.
The new building is proposed to include 90 two-bed apartments and 18 one-bed apartments, alongside car parking for 16 vehicles and cycle storage for 108 bikes. The ground floor also includes commercial space and meeting rooms.
The professional team has held three public consultation events over the past six months to finalise designs for the scheme, which will provide around 250 apartments once complete. Salix has owned the land since 2015.
Last year, the housing provider chose five contractors to deliver a £38m programme of works across its estate over the next three years: Emanuel Whitaker; Jackson Jackson & Sons; Casey Group; A Connolly; and Bell Group.
The three-year investment programme is the second phase of a £75m project, which will see all Salix Homes properties reach the Decent Homes standard by 2020.
