Salford University offers building skills bursary

North West-based contractors are being encouraged to apply for a £1.2m traditional building skills bursary scheme.

The scheme is part of the North West Heritage Skills Hub and is designed to help address the high skills needs currently being encountered in the heritage sector and is being largely funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

In August last year, former head of design and built environment at the North West Development Agency, Heather Emery, was appointed heritage skills ambassador to run a new Heritage Skills Hub.

The Heritage Skills Hub is funded by English Heritage and Construction Skills and run by the Centre for Construction Innovation at Salford University.

The hub undertakes a mapping exercise and audit of the heritage skills training provision and capacity available in the North West.

It also provides seminars and workshops to promote life-long learning in heritage, to help drive the demand for heritage skills across the region and work to coordinate the establishment of a heritage training infrastructure for the North West.
