Salford Uni building is a wrap

The external envelope of the Orange building at Media City UK, designed by Sheppard Robson, has been completed.

The building is named after the orange district in which it sits, Peel having designed a route map for occupants based on colour-coded streets.

Orange building at Media CityAlex Solk, associate partner at Sheppard Robson and project architect of Orange, said the building design was based on the concept of a 'picture-window'. An 11-storey glazed wall on the south elevation looks out over the piazza onto the waterfront, providing a 'framed' focal point for both onlookers and occupiers of the building.

Salford University is the anchor tenant for the building and 1,500 students will begin studying there in September 2011. The building also contains speculative office space for media tenants and shop units at ground level.

Orange is due for completion in spring 2011. Media City is being built by Bovis Lend Lease.

They should have called it ‘Expanded Metal Lath’ Building or EML building for short because it’s so so trendy and cool to have a weird ‘out there’ name for your building nowadays.
