Salford launches design awards

The city council's inaugural Good Design Awards will be sponsored by Ask Property Developments and seek to "give recognition to the quality and innovation of our buildings and places".

There will be six categories in the awards which are open to buildings completed between 1 January 2006 and 31 March 2010.

The awards categories will reward the best…

  • Residential building
  • Commercial building
  • Public sector building
  • Public realm and art schemes
  • Masterplan
  • There will also be a Joe Martin Conservation Award. The conservation award is of special significance as it commemorates Salford's conservation officer Joe Martin, a champion of the city's built heritage.

Anyone can enter the awards, from professional architects and developers who have led their own schemes in Salford, to members of the community who are particularly proud of a local development.

The closing date for entries is Friday 17 September and the awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday 10 November at The Lowry.
