Sainsbury’s lined up for Islington Wharf phase four

The retailer plans to open a 1,750 sq ft store on the ground floor of Waterside Places’ 16-storey residential block on the corner of Great Ancoats Street and Old Mill Street in Manchester.

The retailer has lodged plans to erect signage outside the unit, through planning consultant Alder King.

The Sainsbury’s Local store would be the eleventh on or within Manchester’s inner ring road. The tenth opened on the ground floor of Two New Bailey earlier this year.

Waterside Places, the joint venture between Muse Developments and the Canal & River Trust, submitted plans for the fourth and final stage of Islington Wharf in March 2020, 15 years after approval for the first phase was granted.

Manchester City Council approved plans for the 106-apartment scheme last summer and Morgan Sindall Construction has started on site.

The project was designed by Ryder Architecture.
