Russell WBHO completes final phase in Heywood  

The contractor has handed over a 78,000 sq ft cold storage unit, the final part of a project to expand Lineage Logistics’ 20-acre Hareshill Road headquarters. 

Russell WBHO has completed the final warehouse for the food storage and distribution company following a 12-month build programme.  

The first two phases completed in 2013 and comprised 100,000 sq ft of industrial space, growing the Heywood site 14 years after Lineage relocated there from Belfield Hall Farm.

Following the expansion, Lineage’s Heywood site comprises 425,000 sq ft of warehouse and distribution space. 

Tim Moran, regional vice-president for Lineage, said: “Recent months have seen the importance of the temperature-controlled sector in the economy highlighted and, as the country re-opens, we have seen demand rise to higher than pre-Covid levels. 

“Lineage is continuing to meet customer demands with an ongoing expansion programme, both nationally and across Europe, and the timely completion of the final phase at Heywood is very welcome.” 

The project met strict carbon reduction targets, according to Russell WBHO. 

The new facility will provide Lineage with a 75% operational energy cost saving when compared to the European energy consumption average, thanks to the installation of the Azanefreezer 2.0 system from Star Refrigeration.
