RSL changes chairman

Trafford Housing Trust has appointed Edna Robinson, chairman of Big Issue publisher the Big Life group of companies and a former advisor to Hazel Blears, to head its board.

Robinson takes over from Bernard Knight, who chaired the board for nearly five years, the term of office for this position. The trust has annual revenues of £40.7m and manages 9,000 homes. It was formed in 2005 through a stock transfer from Trafford Council.

Robinson was chief executive of Trafford General Hospital from 2003 to 2005, after which she was a special advisor on health issues to Hazel Blears MP, then Secretary of State at Communities & Local Government.

Robinson said: "While the issues facing the social housing sector are significant, I am comfortable working in a complex financial environment that combines the best of public, philanthropic and private finance. Using my experience, I will be helping the board and executive team to find new and innovative solutions to the challenges facing the trust."
