RSK eyes growth from new Manchester office

Environmental consultancy RSK Group has opened a Manchester office of 20 advisers as it embarks on a business drive in the city and across the wider North West market.

Headquartered in Helsby, Cheshire, RSK is the UK's largest privately owned environmental consultancy with 750 staff in 34 locations around the world.

An aggressive acquisition programme saw it double its turnover in 2007 to around £60m with further growth planned. The firm hopes to be the biggest of its kind in the country by 2011.

The Manchester office in Fourways House, Piccadilly, provide services such as environmental impact assessment, sustainable construction and geotechnical assessments.

RSK originally set up shop at the same location in April 2006 with four personnel, though its exclusive focus was corporate responsibility and sustainability projects.

Clients include volume housebuilders such as Taylor Wimpey and oil giants BP and Shell, assisting with cleaning the land at former petrol forecourts.

The industry tome, the 2007 ENDS Report Consultancy Guide, listed RSK in the top six largest multi-disciplinary consultancies, with a pure environmental service provision greater than that of industry stalwarts such as ERM, Faber Maunsell and Entec.

"We need a bigger and better presence in Manchester to compete with our competitors, be closer to our key clients and also to attract new, high calibre employees who don't want to leave the city," said director Nigel Board.
