Right to Buy take-up at double 2012 levels

The number of people taking up the right to buy their council house in Manchester has more than doubled over the past year, according to official figures.

The latest figures from the Department for Communities & Local Government said that in Manchester 54 council and housing association tenants bought their home in 2012/13 compared to 24 in 2011/12.

Nationally, more than 10,000 people have taken up their right to buy in 2013, more than double the sales seen in the previous year and the highest level since 2007.

This also takes the total numbers of households supported into home ownership through Government-backed schemes to nearly 40,000.
