RIBA unveils Love Architecture programme
Details have been announced by the Royal Institute of British Architects for a new festival of architecture, Love Architecture, from 15 to 24 June 2012.
The RIBA said the festival offers the chance to get involved in a host of activities, including events specifically for children and families. The North West region has activities ranging from city tours to sandcastle competitions, from exhibitions to a chance to try your hand at the latest LEGO architecture series.
Some of the events taking place around the North West are as follows:
A Place to Call Home
15 June to 9 September, 9.00am – 8.00pm daily, The Equator, Mann Island, Liverpool Waterfront, FREE
Home is an essential part of us all. The places that we live in are extensions of our everyday lives. This hugely popular RIBA exhibition, co-curated by Sarah Beeny, transfers from London to Liverpool and charts the story of the design and appeal of everyday homes in the UK.
Building in the Country
15 June – 24 June, open daily, Lakeland, Windermere, FREE
Celebrate the work of local architects and discover how they balance modern design with historical settings at this special exhibition. The public will also be asked to vote for their favourite project.
Love Sandcastles Competition
16 June, 11.00am – 4.00pm, West Kirby Beach, Wirral, FREE
Bring along a bucket and spade and join Liv:Creative for a fun family day out on the beach. There will be several different categories to enter to suit all ages and skill levels.
We Love LEGO (Family)
20 June, 6.00 – 7.30pm, John Dalton Building East, Chester Road, Manchester
£6/£4.20 concessions
Senior Design Manager at LEGO, Simon Kent, offers a unique insight into the world of LEGO and how his own training as a product designer led to having one of the best jobs in the world on the LEGO Creator design team. There will also be a chance to win a special LEGO prize!
Football + Community + Architecture
21 June, 2.00 – 5.00pm, John Dalton Building West, Chester Road, Manchester
£4/£2 concessions
Andy Walsh of FC United will be amongst the speakers who will be examining the connection of the community to football and develop ideas on how this connection can be expanded to enrich the architectural agenda.
Beat the Architect! (Family)
23 June, 10.00am – 1.00pm, LEGO store, Liverpool ONE, FREE
Your chance to take on a team of architects at a LEGO building challenge and showcase your design skills. The architects will also take requests!
