Retail training centre opens in Liverpool One
Grosvenor has announced the launch of Academy One: Liverpool City Region, a retail training centre to be run in partnership with the National Skills Academy for Retail.
Based on Hanover Street in Liverpool One, the centre follows the launch of 18 academies across the UK in April this year. Managed by the UK Career Centre, Academy One will support retailers across the city centre and Merseyside from Ellesmere Port to Southport, St Helens and Knowsley.
The support will cover all aspects of the retail industry including recruitment and pre-employment training through to degree level qualifications and management training.
Merseyside has around 109,000 employees in retail, leisure, tourism and hospitality sector, with 60% of these in the retail sector.
Sara Carthy, Liverpool One human resources director, said: "In the tough economic climate it is more important than ever that employers can call on highly skilled and motivated people to drive the retail sector to success. Academy One – Love to Learn will be a centre for retail excellence and training that will continue to grow the strength of the retail offering of the region.
"Since the opening of Liverpool One over a year ago, Liverpool has risen from 15th to 5th in the Experian retail rankings, a meteoric rise and one that we want to continue through our focus and dedication on the retail sector.
