Restaurants join Redrock prelets

Stockport Council said Pizza Express and Zizzi will both open restaurants in the £45m development, anchored by a 10-screen Light Cinema, when it opens in 2017.

The 75,000 sq ft development is currently under construction by Wates on behalf of Stockport Council. There will be three retail units and seven restaurants, totalling 38,000 sq ft in all, plus the cinema.

Pizza Express has taken a 3,300 sq ft unit. Zizzi will trade from a 3,000 sq ft unit.

The lettings take Redrock to 60% prelet by floor area.

Cllr Patrick McAuley, executive member for thriving economy at Stockport Council, said: “It is fantastic to welcome Zizzi and Pizza Express to Stockport. These are both popular restaurants and them choosing to join us at Redrock is exciting news for our town.

“Redrock will see an important area of Stockport town centre transformed into a new, vibrant leisure and retail destination for residents and visitors. These announcements follow the news that Holiday Inn Express will be opening a hotel as part of the neighbouring Stockport Exchange development showing the Council’s commitment to making Stockport an even better place to live, work and visit.”

Andrew Reavley, director of Lunson Mitchenall, letting agent for the scheme, said: “There is excellent interest in the remaining units and with the scheme opening next year we look forward to be making further announcements about the new lettings shortly.”

Bilfinger GVA is the joint letting agent.

It is really encouraging to see developers embark upon bold schemes in a very competitive sector in suburban locations. The scheme is no doubt attracting interest from popular brands. The challenge to the success of these schemes however is to make sure that target users are at a “state of readiness” to use the goods and services which these suppliers and developments provide in Stockport, when Manchester CBD is a 10 minute train ride away. And of course competition in this sector in Manchester is fierce and represents good value.
