Residential plan for empty Tameside mill

Nexus Planning, working with architect Broadway Malyan, has submitted an application for the conversion of the 40,000 sq ft Britannia Mill in Mossley into apartments.

The proposal on behalf of site owner English Braids is for a mixed-use development, made up of 62 two- and three-bedroom apartments and 8,000 sq ft of high street retail units. The site is close to Mossley train station.

Tameside Council is due to consider the application in March 2016.

Peter Tooher, director at Nexus Planning, said: “The Britannia Mill site is a genuinely exciting opportunity to deliver a high quality, mixed used residential and retail scheme which delivers on English Braids’ vision for the site. It is heartening to see the ongoing regeneration of Mossley, which highlights the potential of some of the smaller towns in Greater Manchester, and this development can make a significant contribution to its future.”

Who you kidding!! Regeneration is one thing but the town is competent over capacitated! No doctors places , the roads in a terrible state struggling to cope with weight of traffic, no dentists the access to this development will be down a small cobbled side street with no respect for those already living there !! Right on top of an already busy junction. That’s before you even consider more school places etc. very ill thought out plan , no regard for the local community at all! This is purely about making money not doing what is right .

100% agree with first comment. They asked for feedback from local community and totally ignored it! All about money! Parking will become even bigger nightmare, local residents will suffer consequences of decisions made by ppl with no regard for mossley!

What consideration has been given for resident parking or are they using the basement and ground floor behind the ‘HighStreet retail units?’ Once again Tameside selling off the heritage for profit. Why not sell of the rubbish building which they own in Stalybridge and invest in people instead of money, money, money.

As usual the doom and gloom mongers are out .these efforts of regeneration are the only future for Mosskey .as regards to the comment about tameside selling off the heritage for profit , did you think about that when you were buying your cheap textiles that were made abroad causing the demise of this heritage ?

Funny how some places are never fashionable,even though they are next to places which are.Mossley has never been up there with Saddleworth and yet it has all the ingredients.The ripple effect has never worked up here,as it does in London.
