Replacement leisure centre planned for Blackburn

Blackburn with Darwen Council has selected Eric Wright Construction to build a £10m sports centre in Feilden Street for Blackburn College.

The new facility will replace the council's leisure provision provided by the dilapidated Waves water fun centre in the town centre, built in 1986.

The centre will be next to the Capita Symonds-designed £5.5m multi-storey car park for the college in Feilden Street and will serve both college and general public users.

There will be two four-court sports halls, gym, 25m eight-lane pool, 17m X 7m pool, slides and support space.

Pearson Fraser, DLA Architecture and Capita Symonds advise the council.

Completion is due by the end of 2014.
