Redrow seeks approval for 425 Congleton homes

The developer’s Giantswood Lane scheme would see a 63-acre site north of the town centre redeveloped.

Cheshire East Council granted outline consent for the project in 2019 and now Redrow is hoping to secure reserved matters approval for its 425-home Congleton scheme. The authority has recommended the plans be approved.

The project would provide a mix of house types ranging from one-bedroom properties up to houses with five bedrooms.

A total of 79 of the homes would be designated as affordable.

Giantswood Lane would benefit from the recently completed £90m Congleton Link Road, now named Wolstenholme Elmy Way.

Under the outline consent, Redrow was granted permission for a primary school and retail facilities. No detailed plans for these elements of the project have been submitted to the council yet.

Redrow is to make contributions in excess of £10m under the terms of a Section 106 agreement signed when the outline consent was granted.

Planning consultancy Ryan & May is advising Redrow on its plans.

Giantswood Lane does not benefit from the new relief road as there is no access from one to the other! this is a development that no-one wants.
