Rail staff balloted over industrial action

Union members at a train operating company providing services within the North West are being balloted over industrial action.

The RMT union says the ballot follows "a comprehensive breakdown in industrial relations" with East Midlands Trains, which operates services to Manchester, Liverpool and other parts of the region.

Talks had been held as a result of allegations of bullying and harassment, victimisation and breach of procedural agreements.

The ballot of all RMT train managers, senior conductors, customer hosts and station/clerical/retail grades for industrial action short of a strike opened late last week and will close on Thursday 11 July.
