PRP submits plans for Carlisle healthcare hub

Working with developer United Healthcare, architect PRP has outlined proposals for a 57,000 sq ft health & wellbeing hub off Eastern Way, Carlisle.

The site, bordered by the Settle to Carlisle railway line, Eastern Way, and Locke Road, is currently vacant and sits alongside the Durranhill industrial estate.

PRP’s proposals include a mixed two-and-four storey building which will feature 54,000 sq ft of healthcare space alongside 2,200 sq ft of retail and a 1,100 sq ft café or restaurant space.

This includes around 60 consulting and treatment spaces with healthcare facilities situated over two levels. A café, pharmacy, and reception will be located at level one, while there will be around 150 car parking spaces at ground floor level.

The developer has been working with Carlisle Healthcare to secure NHS England funding for the project since 2015.

Subject to planning approval, the project will be United Healthcare’s second development in Carlisle, following the 8,000 sq ft Longtown Medical Centre, which was completed in 2007.
