Procure Plus adds to low carbon offering

North West housing association buying consortium, Procure Plus, has appointed David Kemp to the newly created role of sustainability manager.

Kemp joins Procure Plus in the full-time role after acting as an independent consultant with the company since 2011. He previously worked for Wigan Council, Envirolink Northwest and Regenerate Pennine Lancashire.

At Procure Plus, based in Old Trafford, Kemp will advise social housing providers on sustainability issues in procurement such as understanding environmental technologies. He will also head up the organisation's Retrofit Brokerage Service.

Mike Brogan, chief executive of Procure Plus, said: "David has been working with us as a consultant for the past year, and has made a great impact in developing the support and advice we can offer to our members. And as the sustainability agenda continues to grow and develop, and becomes a more immediate concern for the housing industry, we decided to expand on the role and make David a full time member of the team. With his vast knowledge and experience on environmental issues, we know David will be a fantastic asset to Procure Plus and our customers."

Kemp added: "Sustainability can be a challenging and confusing topic for housing providers, so my main aim is to make improving the environmental performance of social housing in the North West as easy for our members as possible. We have the potential to become the flagship region for sustainability and lead the rest of the country in terms of best practice, and I want to support our RP members in being part of that process."
