Preston primed for container leisure scheme
Recall Properties is seeking to introduce a food and drink-led offer in shipping containers to Moor Lane in the city’s university district.
In a project designed by Preston firm Studio John Bridge, Recall has lodged an application for the units, to be placed on a triangular verge fronting Moor Lane.
The application, now lodged with the city council, covers up to nine 20ft container units, with a tensile roof structure providing shelter and a green wall included as part of the plans.
A spokesman told Place North West that these will “provide a mix of street food and local trade catering to Preston’s growing student campus and city living culture”.
Indoor and outdoor seating will be offered for around 80 customers, although with Covid restrictions this would be restricted to around 50.
The site sits between the road and Gateway House, a parade of shops with maisonettes above, with a taxi office at one end. There are several large block of aaprtments on the opposite side of Moor Lane. Recall also owns Gateway House.
In recent years, various projects have come forward using shipping containers as an easily-installed, semi-permanent base for retail and leisure operators, most notable in the North West with Bruntwood’s Hatch scheme on Oxford Road Manchester.

What a strange place to put this. While it’s close to the student area, there’s housing opposite. I can’t see it work. Maybe along Fylde Road or behind the Lamb and Packet.

Fantastic idea, in a great location, will bring much needed foot fall to local business this end of town. About time Preston moved with the times.
