Prestbury Estates updates on Castlefield homes
Having bought the Manchester site earlier this year, the developer has started groundworks, paving the way for a 24-home scheme at Slate Wharf more than four years after the project was approved at planning.
Prestbury Estates’ contracting arm Prestbury Construction is carrying out the 12-month build.
The developer bought the Castlefield site, known locally as Plot G, from Waterside Developments earlier this year, as revealed by Place North West.
Following the acquisition, Prestbury Estates confirmed it intended to deliver the project as consented. The development includes a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments on a small plot next to the Wharf pub.
GA Architects designed the scheme, which will sit on a small site next to the Wharf pub close to Castlefield Basin.
The plans have proved controversial among some residents who want the plot to be preserved as public green space.

Sad to see this sunny spot be built on, it’s going to affect a lot of people particularly come spring.
This is the best possible proposal if it was to be residential though. Slots in to the environment brilliantly. I just hope it’s a smooth build, worst case scenario for all would be for this to stall midway through.

I initially started on rebuilding the Castlefield Basin properties in 1989.
It is unrecognisable now from that time.
Is it better? I am not sure because many accessible places have been overlooked and excluded people with disabilities.
They claim it is accessible but it’s nowhere near.
It’s a shame because I avoid the city like a plague.
