Pozzoni gets planning consent for St Helens leisure centre

Pozzoni has gained planning permission for the redevelopment of Queens Park Leisure Centre in St Helens.

Following a building survey and assessment, St Helens Council developed a brief for a new fit-for-purpose leisure centre to bring the facility up to current day legislation and standards such as Building Regulations, British Standards, Disability Discrimination Act and Sport England recommendations, as well as making the provision more efficient in circulation and content.

After winning the project in competition, Pozzoni's leisure team was commissioned to design a brand new £3.8m scheme which will look to demolish all of the existing buildings with the exception of the sports hall which is a relatively modern structure. The Sports Hall will be refurbished and the new centre, built over the area of demolition, will offer facilities in line with the council's expectations.

The project will start on site in June this year with a forecast completion date in July 2010.
