Port’s RGF work underway
Work has started on £1.7m of improvements to Ellesmere Port's New Bridge Road to boost the prospects of available development sites.
Sites accessed via the road include:
- Cloister Way
- Former BP Castrol site occupied by Williams Sinclair
- Newport Business Park
- Dutton Green, 1.5 acres development land
- Former Cabot Carbon site
- Bridges Road
- Former DSM land, three acres
- Rushtons Yard, 1.5 acres
The initial works relate to adoption of the road, junctions, power network upgrades, infrastructure and land remediation and will last for 18 months.
The road is currently unadopted and will be resurfaced ahead of adoption by he council. There will be new cycle ways, environmental and landscape works and lighting, as well as improvements to drainage and footways.
The works follow a successful bid for £6m from Government's Regional Growth Fund by Ellesmere Port's Development Board and Cheshire West & Chester Council.
Robert Mee, chairman of Ellesmere Port Development Board, said: "This is the first area of Ellesmere Port to benefit from our successful bid to the Regional Growth Fund and I am delighted that local businesses and residents will soon start to see real results.
"We have successfully created Ellesmere Port as a location that is recognised as business and investment-friendly and I know that investing in strategic sites around the town can only increase this success.
"We want Ellesmere Port to continue to attract new businesses and the improvements we will make to support five sites named in our bid will ensure that they are capable of meeting the needs of companies of all sizes and ensuring transport links for local people looking for work."
The RGF money will be used to help unlock sites at Hooton Park, Port Bridgewater, the former Cabot Carbon site, New Port Business Park and former BP Stanlow refinery.
Cllr Mike Jones, council leader, said: "I am pleased to see we are now at a point where we can start works on New Bridge Road – bringing it up to a standard where it can be adopted by this authority is yet another example of the work going on in Ellesmere Port to show businesses that it is a great place to invest in."
