Port seeks contractor for £150m biomass shed

Peel Ports Mersey is planning to build a £150m biomass import and storage facility as part of the ongoing expansion of Liverpool's dock estate.

The port authority and subsidiary of Peel Group is seeking a contractor to design and build the facility which will be linked to rail.

The storage shed will be capable of holding 350,000 tonnes of biomass wood pallets. It has been planned in two phases, the first a £60m construction of a facility with 100,000 tonne capacity.

The overall £150m contract will be let to one firm and is being advertised on behalf of an unnamed client of Peel Ports Mersey.

The start date for the work is scheduled to be the end of July and completion is due in September 2014.
