Pochin to complete Mere hotel in March

Work on a new 81-bedroom hotel at the Mere Golf & Country Club in Knutsford is expected to be completed by March next year.

The new hotel is part of the second phase of a £15m refurbishment at the health resort, which is being carried out by Pochin Construction.

Mark Boler, chief executive of the Mere Golf & Country Club, said: "We are pleased with the progress so far on the second phase of the development, the first three floors of the hotel are now complete we are working on the final floor, the roof is due to be completed at the end of September. Refurbishment of the existing conference rooms will begin in January and we are on schedule for completion of the overall project on 3 March 2012. It's business as usual at the Mere and we are still very much open for our spa, dining, golf and conference facilities."

The second phase involved demolition of the conference room known as the Nick Faldo Suite, which was external to the health resort's main building, to make way for the hotel build.

A member's bar and lounge, known as The Atrium, will close in December and reopen in March next year to accommodate a new brasserie-style restaurant and cocktail bar.

Wilmslow-based interior design consultancy Mather & Co is also working on the Mere development.

The first phase involved the conversion and extension of an existing stable block to form a new £5.5m health club and spa, which opened at the start of this year.
