Pochin lands Unicorn brewery visitor centre job

Pochin Contractors has been appointed to revamp the visitors centre at the Unicorn Brewery in Stockport for brewer Fredric Robinson.

The 7,427 sq ft centre will consist of alterations, extensions and some refurbishments to the existing building. The details of the 37-week contract will be agreed when the stage two tender is submitted in September.

Antony Pochin, of Pochin Contractors, said: "Pochin was the original contractor that built the bottling centre, when production began in 1975. More recently we completed civil works to the brewery's packaging line and refurbished a number of public houses across the North West for the firm.

"As always, when working at the Unicorn Brewery, we are required to work under challenging conditions, as the site remains fully operational during construction. Plans for the visitors centre include erecting a temporary roof over the existing conference area to enable alterations and construction of the new building to proceed, while the area is kept live. There is also very limited space available for construction activities and storage, therefore accurate planning and logistics is critical."
