Plastics maker buys Barcrest site

Oldham-based Patterson & Rothwell has acquired 146,000 sq ft of manufacturing, distribution and office facilities at a site in Ashton-under-Lyne, formerly home to the Barcrest Group.

The new facility sits on a 4.81-acre site in Margaret Street. Patterson & Rothwell is consolidating from several sites.

Gary Torr, managing director of Dekko Window Systems, a sister company of Patterson & Rothwell Group, said: "Dekko has seen significant growth in sales since its inception six years ago with its current facility now becoming a constraint the dedicated team at Dekko are extremely delighted that the acquisition of the site will now aid its future expansion plans."

Lee Tilley, director of Patterson & Rothwell, added: "This attainment has arisen from our requirement to consolidate manufacturing operations across a number of divisions and we are looking to start off with around 150 jobs on the site and create up to a further 100 jobs over the next five years. We have been growing our product range over the past few years and seeing increasing success."

"We are grateful for the efforts of Tameside Council which played a very significant role in helping to secure this site. This is an exciting development and it represents a great vote of confidence in the tremendous workforce that we have."

Stephen Capper, associate director at CBRE, advised Barcrest on the deal. He said: "It's vital for Greater Manchester's economy that growing businesses like Patterson & Rothwell are able to continue to invest and expand as this deal enables them to.

"We are seeing more activity from the manufacturing sector with a number of fast-growing companies actively looking for new space."
