Plastics firm expands in Bury

Wates Construction has been awarded a £1.75m contract to deliver an industrial facility for Bury-based plastics manufacturer, Thumbs Up Bury, in Dumers Lane.

The 30,000 sq ft research and development product testing centre will be built next to the company's existing manufacturing and distribution base.

The scheme, designed by Byrom Clark Roberts, will replace a former recycling centre, which is set to be demolished to make way for the new building. Completion of the project is due in summer 2014.

Tony Shenton, business unit director for Wates Construction, North West, said: "Our appointment to deliver the new facility in Bury has been closely followed by an efficient and prompt site set up process to ensure we accommodate the production and distribution expansion of Thumbs Up during the company's busiest trading period to date. The project has already commenced ahead of the planned start date and will be delivered on time and budget in the summer."
