Plans submitted for latest Manchester Life mill conversion

The ninth project for Manchester Life in Ancoats and New Islington will see the conversion of the grade two-listed New Little Mill into 68 apartments intended for sale.

The mill is in the Ancoats Conservation Area and is next to Murrays’ Mills, which is also being converted into flats by Manchester Life.

At New Little Mill, safeguarding works were carried out in 2008, which included roof repairs and boarding up the windows. The building has been vacant for a number of years and due to the level of deterioration, Manchester Life plans to keep the façade but replace the damaged internal structure with a steel frame.

An additional two-storeys will be added to the existing five-storey building and will accommodate a mix of two- and three-bed duplex apartments, with roof terraces and winter gardens.

PRP is the architect. Deloitte is the planner, and the contractor is set to be chosen from Manchester Life’s preferred list of three; Graham, John Sisk & Son and Eric Wright.

Manchester Life is a joint venture between the council and Manchester City FC owner Abu Dhabi United Group.
